The first Carfree Day in Kopche, Dhankuta on 8th November 2025 saw the street become a dynamic public place for connection and reflection, which was brought to life with traditional games, cultural showcases, and authentic food stalls, culminating in a communal Newari Bhoj right on the chowk. A Sensory Walk encouraged a deeper engagement with the environment, while the Sukul Sambaad provided a crucial space to decompress and collectively plan a way forward. A significant first step was also taken towards a sister relationship proposal between the Kopche Punarjaagaran Abhiyaan and Jiwanta Hadigaun Abhiyaan.
Lasting impact springs from community ownership. Having been with both the Kopche and Hadigaun campaigns from the start, Digo Bikas Institute is proud to have facilitated this collaboration.
This event was a collaboration between Dhankuta Municipality, Digo Bikas Institute, ICIMOD, HUSADEC, Nepal Tourism Board, Community Homestay Network, and Smart Paani, driven by the incredible effort of the Kopche Punarjaagaran Abhiyaan.
