Shail Shrestha

Shail Shrestha is a Co-founder of Digo Bikas Institute and leads Sustainability School Program at Digo Bikas Institute. He began his engagement as a social activist as a bicycle activist while he was studying the interconnections of media, culture, and society as part of his Bachelors in Media Studies at Kathmandu University. He became part of building the Kathmandu cycle city 2020 campaign in 2009, and later became the founding president of Cycle City Network Nepal, which promotes cycling culture across Nepal.

Understanding the deeper co-relations between economy, urban development and sustainability, he became founding member of Digo Bikas Institute in 2015. Engaged in broader discourse on urban development and sustainability, he has been advocating about the relevance of the ancient urban settlements of Kathmandu Valley as a solution to Global sustainability crisis. He participated in the global assembly of bicycle activist in World Bicycle Forum 2018, and 2019 representing Nepal and was successful to virtually organize the international event in Nepal in 2020.  He is also the founding member and Nepal coordinator of Carfree Cities Alliance, a network dedicated to the development and promotion of Carfree Urban Future.

He believes in the localization of the economy and has been exploring the interconnections of economic systems and sustainability. He completed his Master of Arts in Distance Education, from IGNOU, and has also been involved in the alumni to promote distance education as a sustainable and accessible approach for education.
