Aarati Poudel

An environmentalist with a strong background in climate science research and policy advocacy, Arati serves as a senior research officer at the Climate Justice Program of the Digo Bikas Institute (DBI). In this role, she oversees policy research, advocacy efforts, and grassroots actions on cross-cutting climate change issues. Her commitment to climate issues spans a decade, beginning with her selection as a City Environment Volunteer for the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Arati has published peer-reviewed papers on the extreme climatology of Nepal and presented research on the “Role of Women-Led Cooperatives in Climate Finance and Building Climate Resiliency in Nepal” at COP 27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. She earned an International Student Scholarship from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences to pursue her master’s degree in research with a specialization in extreme climatology. She has previously worked as a research associate at the Kathmandu Center for Research and Education (KCRE) and was awarded the Digo Bikas Research Fellowship in 2020. Her passion for climate issues and research is matched by her dedication to positively impacting the community through her work. In her free time, she enjoys trekking, traveling and learning about local culture and history.
